Bandcamp has the power to offer a platform for organisations to release music that can support political change. The era of Trump has seen the rise of policies that have been divisive and restrictive to women’s rights across a number of states, prompting many reactions from musicians who have used this forum to articulate their disdain of his policies. And look no further, as a new compilation has arisen. New York label, Black Flags Over Brooklyn have compiled this collection of uncompromising tracks under the title of Riffs For Reproductive Justice.
It features 33 tracks of some of the finest heavy jams around, all offered in order to support women’s rights charities (abortionfunds.org and yellowhammerfund.org). Particular shout out goes to Thou’s rendition of Nirvana’s ‘My Girl’, Svalbard’s ‘Pro-life’ and Vile Creature’s ‘A Steady Descent Into the Soil’, but ultimately the whole compilation is full of rad tracks that deserve a listen. The fact they are supportive of an important cause is only a bonus. Please donate and please listen (and also support other organisations that promote women’s rights around the globe if possible).
