Gwenifer Raymond: Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain

Brighton-based Welsh guitarist, Gwenifer Raymond, boasts an incredible CV. Alongside a PhD in Astrophysics and a day job as a video game designer, Raymond is also an incredible guitarist, whose virtuosity is on full display with her second full-length release, Strange Lights Over Garth Mountain.

Fans of the Tacoma school of steel guitar musings are sure to be enthralled by this incredible collection of tracks. However, Raymond undoubtedly stands out amongst the pack through her breathtakingly haunting compositions. The album is imbued with an atmosphere of folk-horror, evoking the darker and stranger traditions of her native Welsh folklore. These may be instrumental tracks, but Raymond manages to string a host of tales through these 8 songs, sinister stories that will resonate deeply within your soul.

The album was released last November by American label, Tompkins Square, and can be listened to and downloaded via Bandcamp here:

And if you want to see her incredible playing in action, a terrific video performance accompanying her album release is available here:
